Forget everything you know about the French Revolution! We’re taking you far beyond just names and dates by leading you on an extraordinary journey through alleyways, churches, cafes, and even a mysterious crypt where the Revolution’s victims await you. This is history you can see and touch, imagining yourself there in the thick of history’s most turbulent and terrifying upheaval.
Come across a cast of bloodthirsty characters like Robespierre, Danton and Marat, as you explore the historic location where they plotted and planned against the tyrannical king. Your guide will demystify the social and political complexities of the time, distilling them into an engaging and adventurous timeline that even non-history lovers will adore. The storming of the Bastille is just the beginning, trust us!
You’ll learn about the extravagances of Louis XVI and his queen Marie Antoinette. You’ll then follow their downward spiral from their imprisonment in Paris, to their attempted secret escape, to their fateful moments beneath the glistening blade of the guillotine. Speaking of the “National Razor”, we’ll show you where it was invented and explain just how effective a killing machine it was—“Heads flying like roof shingles in a hurricane,” according to one witness!
After a complimentary café break to take a breather, you’ll continue along an itinerary packed with surprising objects that lurk in the shadows of the picturesque Saint-Germain-des-Prés district. And the macabre grand finale is one you don’t want to miss—we’ll give you VIP access into an off-limits area that displays the victims of a key revolutionary massacre.
Corey studied art and music in New York before moving to Paris five years ago. He is married to a frenchy and can now perfectly speak French! He also fell in love with the city from day one--from the curves of its gargoyles to the flakes of its pastries--and considers it a sort of lifelong quest to unlock as many of its secrets as he can. He thinks the deeper you dive into Paris the more beautiful it gets, which is why he’s always eager to share his knowledge and bring the city into brighter focus for its visitors. When he isn’t strolling in search of inspiration or historical tidbits (or the pâtisseries mentioned above), he can be found drinking copious amounts of tea and writing.

You’ll meet your guide near the Saint-Sulpice station, in the bustling heart of Saint-Germain-des-Prés. First will be a stop in front of the glorious Saint-Sulpice Church to learn how this whole revolution thing got started: a bad harvest, an indecisive king, the storming of the Bastille, etc. A visit inside the building will reveal surprising details left behind by ravenous Revolutionaries.
You’ll then discover historic addresses and hear stories like the daring escape of the royal family, and the dire consequences that followed. You’ll see where key players like Danton, Marat, Desmoulins and Robespierre plotted and planned the bloody destruction of the monarchy. A rare exploration of Paris’ oldest café will show you exactly where their caffeine-fueled debates took place, with extraordinary objects on view that bring history to life.
After a restful coffee break you’ll see where the guillotine was built and tested, followed by a dark prophecy and the telling of a gruesome murder mystery. Who dunnit? You’ll have to keep walking to find out! The intrigue continues as you learn how deceit and distrust would lead longtime friends to assassinate each other in the name of self-preservation.
Your exploration ends with a bang as you get rare VIP access into areas normally closed to the public. First, a garden where over a hundred priests were brutally murdered. Then a room where traces of their blood still stains the stones! Finally, an off-limits crypt where a macabre display of skeletal remains acts as a final resting place for the slain.
Please note that the crypt is only included as part of this tour on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons. On other days, the crypt is replaced by the Luxembourg Gardens.
Highly recommended- very knowledgeable tour guide- well organized and definitely had stories and secrets of the French Revolution! Even my husband , who didn't really have any prior knowledge found this fascinating.
The Paris French Revolution Tour was exactly what we were hoping for on many levels.
Meeting Corey our guide went very smoothly, he was friendly and clearly has a great depth of knowledge of not only the French Revolution but Paris in general. Corey provided historical background in a compelling manner, showing us many physical buildings and location in Paris where poignant historical events have taken place (some real gems I would never have seen had Corey not shown us!).
Just the right amount of walking/distance. A great way to see some areas of Paris off the traditional 'tourist' beaten path. Whether you're a history buff or not you'll love this tour!
The tour was spectacular and our guide was truly inspired. Corey was a professor of the streets and showed his enthusiasm at every point. It was a delight to see the sights of Paris through the lens of the French Revolution and to walk in the same buildings that we had only read about - the tour made those places come to life! We would both highly recommend this tour and our guide to anyone looking to learn about Paris and the Revolution.
Paris is so beautiful that you will enjoy it by only walking around...but how amazing to actually learn the story behind those streets, buildings and corners regarding this history changer event. This tour enhances your time in Paris exponentially, Highly recommend.
Corey did a great job with this tour. I have been to Paris several times, but this walk really pulled the story of the Revolution together for me. Had the weather and schedule permitted we would happily done your WWII tour as well. Next time! Thanks for a terrific afternoon.
I've been to Paris 4 times and this was the coolest thing I've ever done there. Corey was our tour guide and took us through the narrow winding streets of the revolution. He is an amazing story teller and we got to see pieces of history that you would never find on your own. I absolutely loved the tour and would recommend it to anyone that enjoys the history of Paris.
This was an excellent tour. Corey was a dynamic tour leader and had so many interesting stories and things to point out that we would never see on our own. We learned a lot about the revolution and it was fascinating to be in the places where things happened. I would highly recommend this tour to everyone.
Absolutely fascinating - its the second tour we did with Corey (also the Dark Side of Paris) and both were terrific. His knowledge and enthusiasm brings it all to life. Highly recommended - we have told all our friends about him.
What an amazing tour! So informative and our tour guide made it so interesting. He made it come to life, taking us to Cafe-Glacier where they masterminded who was going to be executed to the church where the priests who did not conform were all killed, I believe 145 in all. If you enjoy history this is a great tour to do
I loved my tour with Corey and would recommend him highly to anyone going to Paris. He showed us many different things I couldnt have seen on my own.
He was great.
It was such an amazing tour and Corey was lovely and very informative, it felt like being led around Paris by a friend - I'm definitely coming back for more tours with Localers!!
Corey was an amazing guide - thanks again for an awesome tour! He was engaging and enthusiastic, and presented this interesting subject in a suspenseful and comprehensive way. Beautiful sights along the walk and lots of opportunities to ask questions. Highly recommended for a half day in Paris :)
Definitely fabulous. Can't wait to do another tour. Corey was terrific.
